Dr. Zhivago

Now that you've viewed the film Dr. Zhivago, please post onto the class blog the characters which you feel are in power and the characters which you feel are powerless. As you see threads emerging, comment on your classmates' posts. You should agree, disagree, complicate, and question the way your peers are assessing the characters in the film, including an explanation of why you are taking up a specific position. This means you will need to phrase your responses like "I disagree that character X is powerless because when he says X and character Z responds by saying "Y", then character X's power is revealed."

Reciprocal Power

Foucault identifies what can be named 'reciprocal power.' I'd like you to share what you understand this term to mean and how it affects the way you understand terms such as 'subordinate,' 'dominant,' 'powerful,' and 'powerless.'

Foucault's Panopticism

For this series of posts, I'd like you to share ideas about what Foucault is getting at in his text. Panopticism, as well as the areas where you aren't quite sure what he's getting at. For the latter, refer to the work you did in your Difficulty Paper. Remember, we are trying to develop a working definition of the term power by exploring the way Foucault is defining it in his work. Please include in your posts questions for your classmates and specific, textual markers for us to examine (yes, I do want quotes and citations in your posts).
